THE CHIPMUNKS

Our Pets, The Chipmunks (Odie, Simon, and Theodore) are all mine and Henry’s best buddies.  No favorites here, we love them equally.  They’re mostly chill, they don’t bark or meow much (except for Theodore), and are easy to cuddle with, well…most of the time.  The following will be pictures and descriptions of each Chipmunks’ personalities.

Odie Alvin will be 5 years old in June. He is a standard Yorkshire Terrier and was adopted by Henry from Henry’s brother.  He doesn’t bark but, snorts loudly when excited.  He has a condition called “Reverse Sneezing” also called as “Pharyngeal Gag Reflex” (read about it here), don’t worry, it’s not life threatening. Odie is HELLA chill and spends most of his day laying in bed while both Henry and I are at work.  He is the Under Dog (HA!) between the three as far as ranking and position go.  But, don’t push his buttons!  He’ll fight back when needed (when I say fight I mean more like growl and play bite).

Simon Dexter will be 4 years old in June also. He is a neutured (womp womp) pure Blue British Shorthair breed that Henry got for me on my 25th bday.  He was adopted from Elusive Blue (elusiveblue.com), a British Shorthair Catery in Simi Valley, CA.  He only meows when either irratated or is curious.  He’s chill and REALLY friendly to people (not so much with other strange pets).  He loves to pick on Odie and Theodore…I guess you can say that Simon’s the Alpha Male of the house.  He walks around like he’s the shiznit.  But other than that, he’s the most patient out of the 3.  Although he doesn’t like to be cuddled, he’ll let you and will wait until you’ve gotten your cuddle fix.  Oh, I almost forgot, Simon knows how to FETCH (Henry trained him).

Theodore Garfield will be 2 years old in…guess…yup, June. He is a “Big Balled” (not fixed) pure Creame British Shorthair breed that I got for Henry’s 30th bday. He was also adopted from Elusive Blue. He meows a lot, given that he is not fixed and when in heat…oooh boy. Not too much as regular cats’ mating call…more in spurts and only in the bathroom (Henry says there’s a cat across the street parallel to our bathroom) and/or when he’s trying to wake us up for food. Theodore’s the scaredy cat (HA!) one. Unlike Simon, Theodore is really shy with people. He’s often found hiding in his red-cushioned-box-thing or under something when Henry and I have guests over. It takes him time to adjust but, comes along when he’s comfortable and ready. He loves playing with Simon more ofthen than fighting. Me and Henry know when they get out of hand and start to fight. Their fights usually involve hissing and fur flying. It’s all politics, one has balls and the other one doesn’t. Theodore doesn’t play with Odie much, Theodore actually ignores Odie when Odie’s growling at him playfully. I guess Theodore’s just confused and doesn’t understand dogs. Other than being shy and often in heat, Theodore’s the sweetest cat when he wants to be. He purrs more often than Simon, a couple of seconds of petting his back or cheeks or tail, if he’s comfortable with you..he’ll purr. Theodore doesn’t like to be cuddled, cuz petting is enough for him. One last thing, he’s the most acrobatic. He can jump as high as 5 feet from the ground if he wanted to. Cool huh?

It took about 2 weeks for all of them to adjust to one another.  They hardly fight with one another but, definitely aren’t best friends.  They play with each other a lot…well, the cats do and most of the time Odie just sits on the sideline.  It’s ok though, Odie gets his playtime with Simon every now and then.
